I am a certified trekking guide and license holder, receiving my training from (NATHAM) Ministry of Tourism.

In Nepal, I have been to the Everest region, Annapurna region, Langtang region, Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley, Upper Mustang, Dolpo, Makalu, Kanchengjunga and round Dhaulagiri. In Tibet I have trekked to the Everest Base Camp Tibet side, Holy Mt. Kailash.

Being a trekking guide, I am dedicated to my work to share my experience and knowledge to explain about Nepalese culture, people, tradition, lifestyle and the mountains to my valued clients.

Excellent trekking in the photogenic and culturally distinct Kingdom of Mustang.

Unlike many of our competitors, this new and unique Happy Holidays itinerary offers a true circuit – we trek up the western side of the valley to the historic capital Lo Manthang, and then return down the little known, spectacular eastern side Mustang lies in the rain shadow of the Himalaya making it an ideal region to explore outside the normal Nepal trekking season. The region is located to the north of the mountain giants of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna and therefore lies ‘behind’ the main Himalayan range and geographically is part of the highlands of Tibet. It is a vast high arid valley, characterised by eroded canyons, colourful stratified rock formations and has a barren, desert-like appearance.

Trekking groups were only allowed in for the first time in March 1992, and only a small number of trekkers visit this remote outpost of Nepal each year. Recognising the special nature and distinct Tibetan culture of this old, tiny kingdom, the Nepalese have imposed a surcharge (included in the price of our trek) for anyone wishing to trek past Kagbeni, the border of Upper Mustang. One of the most fascinating features of Mustang is literally thousands of cliff dwellings, some of which look completely inaccessible. The most recent theory is that they may date from 8-10,000 BC when Mustang was a much greener land.

  1. We are two people interested in the upper mustang trek. We want to leave on the 27th of April from KTM and return to KTM on 14th

Please let me know if you are interested in being our guide. I am from India and my trekking partner is from US.

    • Hi Nikhil,

We’ll check with Kuman and confirm if he’s available for an April 27th departure.

  2. Me and my friend are planning to trek Upper Mustang, but we are looking for a guide Who can take us through Ghandruk – Tilicho lake – Jomsom – Lo Manthang.

  3. Maxlev

Hi, this looks to be very interesting to do and I will be able to be in Pokhara by May 8. (I will be heading to Nepal on the 23rd of April and visiting several areas until mid-June). I have a question though: for this trek one needs an extra permit specifically for Mustang, correct? And how would that be arranged and what are the fees?

    • Dear Maxlev,

Thank you very much for your post. there are already two person booked for this trip departing on 8th May from Kathmandu and fly from Pokhara to Jomson on 9th May and trek end on 20th May and fly back from Jomsom to Pokhara on 21st May. If you are interested then this trip cost US$ 950 Person. This cost include: restricted area permit, Annapurna conservation entry fee, guide and Porter, guide and porter insurance and transportation.
Not included: your meals and lodging on the trek, airfare, tips etc.
to operate Upper Mustang trip minimum two people required and we already have two person confirmed that mean this trip is sure to go on the 8th May.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

      with best regards,

      Kuman Gurung

    • Hi Kuman,

Thank you for the clarification. Is there any chance to do this trek a bit earlier than May 8th to get a chance to see the Tiji festival (4-6th May) or is that impossible as the other trekkers or you are already engaged then. Thanks!

  4. Kuman Gurung

Dear Maxlev, thank you very much for your prompt reply. The two other persons are arriving Kathmandu on 7th May that is why we can not do this trek earlier than May 8. sorry for that I am already engaged then.

    with best regards,

    kuman Gurung
