Annapurna Circuit Trek

Hello! I am arriving in Kathmandu June 5th and will make my way to Pokhara by June 7th/8th. From there I would like to look into hiring a guide or finding people to tag along with through the Annapurna circuit. From what I’ve been reading June is not the best time to go (vampire leeches, cloudy conditions, empty/closed tea houses) but since I’ll be there in June I might as well go for it! I plan on taking my time a bit to hike some of the side trails but I need to be back in Kathmandu June 30th to meet up with a friend. I can hike a lot in a day…but humidity can slow me down 🙂

  1. Hey Devon, I don’t know if we can meet up somewhere, but I also planned to do the Circuit in June, which means there are not many people around joining, and I need to be back on 21st of June, do you think, that this will work out somehow, so we could try to hike that thing together? Best regards and have a nice trip, Charlotte

    • Hello Charlotte, I think that timing could work for us to do the trek together. I arrive in Kathmandu on the 5th and could possibly get to Pokhara on the 6th of June. That would give us about 15 days to do the trek. Are you interested in hiring a guide? My friend went last year and has a guide she trusts and recommended.

  2. Hey Devon, so I got a message from another trekker who goes also at the 29th of May so I will hike with her and a guy from the UK so we just have more time because I have no clue whether I am fit enough for the trip an you seem way fitter than me 🙂 anyway if you maybe change plans and want to a company us just write me, I will Start the hike from Pokhara around the weekend from the 29th to 30th. Best regards and thank you for your help!

    • Thank you Charlotte! Have a wonderful trip. P.S. I do not think I am much fitter than you 😉

  3. Hi, I am reaching Kathmandu on the 7th of June and plan to trek the circuit as soon as I can reach Pokhara from there. I should be able to start the trek on the 9th of June. As of now I am traveling alone, another friend may join in later. Fresh snow on the pass may be a concern if the monsoon is on schedule. Would need someone who knows the pass well in that situation.
    Regards
    Aman

    • Hello Aman, I have decided I will for sure hire a guide. I think it is the best idea in the off season, and with potential snow. If you would like to join me in this we can meet up in Pokhara around the 9th and begin the journey. I have a few recommendations for guides from friends.

    • Sounds like a plan. Even I prefer taking a guide. Try not to go through an agency. I have been told that we should meet the guide before finalising anything, just have a chat with him to figure his knowledge of the route. Even I will look for one at my end.

    • Hi, a small change, I reach Kathmandu on 5 th of June instead of 7 th.

    • Hello, I sent you a message as well but wanted to let you know that if you message me your email I can send you the itinerary that the guide sent over. His name is Dil.

  4. Hi Devon, I want to do this circuit, and the dates are good for me. I also have time, and I would also like to do some side trekking. For me it would be better to start from kathmandu and finish in pokhara. Actually most things I’ve read recomend you to do it like this, as its easier for aclimatisation and altitude sickness. Please let me know what do you think!

    • Hello Ivan. I will stay several days in Kathmandu as well before going to Pokhara. If you would like to meet up in Pokhara around the 8th or 9th and then take off from there that would be great. I am in the process of hiring a guide. Let me know if you would like to join in this.

  5. Hi Devon,

I’m getting to Kathmandu on June 3rd and planning to head out to Pokhara shortly after. I’d be interested in joining up with you and the others on this thread, if the timing ends up working out. I have to be back to Kathmandu to meet a friend on June 23rd, so I don’t know if that would make things too rushed or not. I’m typically pretty comfortable with covering a good amount of distance in a day, but most of my backpacking experience has been at lower elevations so that may change things.

I’d be interested in hearing about what recommendations you’ve gotten for guides. Do you know if they typically charge a set rate per day, or do they typically charge more for larger group?

    • Hi Alyssa,

I don’t know if I could make it back by the 23rd. I have a friend I am meeting on the 30th so I was going to be back around then. I think our days are off by just a bit, otherwise I would love to join you!

I wish I knew more about pricing for guides and things. I do know that when you pay a guide that typically everything is included (necessary transportation, food, accommodations, etc.) which can be kind of nice and take some of the hassle out of the travel process. I will be paying the guide I wish to travel with $850. It was more than I was hoping but also worth it to contribute to the community and to have a once in a lifetime experience. Good luck on your adventure!

  6. Hi Devon,
I will probably be arriving in Kathmandu on the 5th as well, and am looking to do pretty much exactly what you are doing. I have always wanted to do the Annapurna circuit but I only just was able to make these dates work. I would love to join you guys if possible.
    Best,
    Nicki

    • Hi Nicki,

That would be great! I have found a guide that I think sounds great and was highly recommended by a friend of mine. He would be willing to meet in Kathmandu on the 7th or 8th and begin then. Does that work for you? It might be nice to do some exploring in Kathmandu first. If you message me your email I can send you the itinerary he sent.

    • Hey Devon,
I’m so sorry for the back and forth, but because of some flight issues I had to change when I come in, so I won’t make it that early. Best of luck on your trek!!

  7. I am planning to do the Annapurna Circuit between 11-26 June. I plan to reach Pokhara by 11th evening and need to be back in Pokhara by 25th night. Am pretty fit and can easily trek for 8-9 hours a day. Do let me know if the dates work out.

    • Hi Udai,

The trip that I have planned will take 19 days and so it looks like we might not be rushing through. I wish you all the best. safe travels!

  8. Hey everyone 🙂

I am planning to go to Manang and back around the same time as you guys. I don’t have much time so I am looking forward to catching a bus from Besisahar to Chame and then walk up to Manang and back. I don’t want to go alone, so I was wondering if I could join any of you and if you would want to join me on the bus ride (and beyond). I’ve heard that the trekking trail is quite affected by the road and since I don’t have much time I decided to go by bus up to Chame. I have a lot of experience of trekking in Nepal (I’ve been to 5 treks) and I speak a little bit of Nepali as well. Looking forward to your replies!

    • Good luck with this plan. It sounds great! I think I will be taking a bit of time and intend to walk the entire way. I hope you enjoy the trip.

  9. Hi Devon,
Is your trip already completly arranged? Or is there by chance another place in your group still available?
    Thanks for a short reply.
    Bille

    • Hi Billie,

I would love for you to join. I have a guide, Dil, and he is fantastic. He has been a great correspondent and he comes highly recommended from a friend. We depart Kathmandu on the 7th and will go on a 19-20 day trip. Message me your email if you would like to know more details or find a way to meet up in Kathmandu.

  10. Hello,

I’m planning on trekking the Annapurna Circuit as well. Timewise this trip sounds like it suits my plans nicely. I’m flexibele with the exact dates. I will arrive in Pokhara in two of three days. My previous treks include Cotopaxi (Equador) and Mt. Rinjani (Indonesia). I would love to hear whether there is any possibility to join the group.

Bille, if there is no way to join the existing group, contact me. Than we can check whether we can arrange a trip.

    Kind regards,
    Roy

    • Hello again. I sent you a message as well. Let me know if you still care to join and if the dates work. Since you are starting in Pokhara and we are starting in Kathmandu I’m not sure how that will work logistically. We will just wait and see 🙂

    • Roy where are you now? I’m planning to be in Pokhara tomorrow

  11. Hey Devon if you need a guide I can help you get into contact with the one I’ve used for manaslu, three passes and Kanchenjunga. He’s inexpensive, knowledgeable, fluent in English and really fun to be a round. Let me know if this helps. John.

    • Thank you for the offer. I have found a guide I will use for this trip. I appreciate you reaching out.

  12. Hey I’m also interested in joining of it’s still possible, what are the plans now?

    • Hi Marine!

Did you end up joining this trip? If not, I leave in a couple of days if you are still in need of a companion 🙂

  13. Hello Marine. The plans as of now are to set out from Kathmandu the morning of the 7th, and arrive back in Kathmandu 19-20 days later. The guide, Dil, will organize all food, lodging and transportation. The trip also includes one rest day for acclimatization and one rest day in a hot springs. If you are interested you can send me your email and I can share the itinerary.

    Take care!
    Devon

    • Hello Devon! I’m on Kathmandu and I would like to know if is possible join you guys in this trip.
If yes, can you send me the itinerary?
      Thanks

  14. Hey, I am also in Kathmandu. It will be convinient if all of us could get together and plan the trek.
