Destination of the Year:Forget Kilimanjaro: Mount Kenya is Africa’s Most Rewarding Peak
We(a group of 4 with a mix of varying decent from Africa-America backgrounds,Aussies & Canadians) are soon & still planning a hike in Kenya, why not the most appropriate place on earth next to the equator to have our perfect getaway in the mid of this year.
We are Africa enthusiastic travelers seeking to conquer mt Kenya for two times on the following dates May 15th & then return again on October 20th 2015 during Kenya`s Mashujaa Day Festivals.
Lets Meet in Kenya on either May 15th or October 20th 2015 for 5 days mt.kenya sirimon -sirimon ,sweet waters hike trip and later the 6days chogoria route climb.
The second attempt is technical climbing the duration is longer up to 6 days as stated. An extra day period is instead recommended in order to allow for acclimatization. No times in the year should worry you as long as you are physically fit.
On account of the high altitudes it is wise not to rush to the summit areas and the very shortest trip to Lenana should allow for 3 nights on the mountain. To combine this ascent with a circumnavigation of the main peaks requires at least an extra day.
Mount Kenya is located on the equator. Magnificent cliffs and glaciers protect the highest peaks of Nelion (5188m) and Batian (5199m).
The third highest summit – Point Lenana, (4985m) – is also glaciated but accessible to walkers.
Tarns and alpine meadows; exotic, equatorial, high-altitude vegetation; sunbirds, hyrax and soaring eagles make the walk around the peaks one of the most beautiful expeditions in the East African mountains.
Will hit a camp Located on the plains of Mount Kenya, the camp features thirty-nine luxury tents, each with its own private veranda overlooking the water hole. The central Rhino Restaurant is housed in the former manager’s house of this once colonial farm, and offers both regional and international cuisine. Also within the house is the Kashoggi Bar and lounge, which centres on a blazing log fire. The Waterhole Bar, built in the style of a game-viewing hide, overlooks the waterhole and offers unrivalled wildlife-watching.
Host to all the members of the ‘Big Five’ (elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard), the conservancy has a higher wildlife-to-area ratio than any Kenyan national park and is one of only four private game conservancies to have been founded in Kenya. At the forefront of the Kenyan conservancy programme, the conservancy boasts the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, hosts the only chimpanzee sanctuary in Kenya, and shelters large numbers of rare and endangered species.
We are seeking partners who have minimal or have a wide range of experience climbs of Mountains. Will later go for local-guide led safaris to many locales in east Africa, including the Samburu and Meru National Park.
We have traveled and taken travelers around this region for a long time. I look forward to meeting you.
