Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek

Hey guys, Matt and I are looking for some friends to trek the 3 Passes trek with us starting around February 10 and trekking for approx 18-20 days (including acclimitization/rest days). We’re 25 and pretty fit so would do the trek at a reasonable pace but are also wanting to explore and take lots of photos so that could slow us down a bit. We have been doing lots of research and are not sure whether we should hire a guide for the trek but will see if we can get some trekking partners on board and judge based on that.

  1. Hi Angela,

I’m in Nepal from 31st Jan to 27th March, and for the first part of my trip I was planning to do the EBC trek – I haven’t found any to go with yet though. I haven’t really considered the 3 passes trek as it seems like a bit of a step up (and i’m solo at the moment).

    However, I am tempted!
My concern is that snow might make some parts of the trek inaccessible, in my LP guidebook it says before March this could be an issue.
Personally, I would feel safer with a reputable guide.

Do you guys have experience at high altitude? I am pretty fit in England but have yet to test myself at height, and wouldn’t want to hold you up if I needed some extra acclimatisation time.

    Regards,

    Tom

  2. Hello all,
Not sure how flexible your dates are, but I’m flying into KTM on the 28th and going to spend a few days before gearing up for the trek. Would love to meet interesting new people, share some laughs and enjoy the views with. This will be my first time in KTM so i am pricing some deals out with local guides and seem to have landed on a really reasonable offer. I’m being offered this trip for 1,200 USD:

As, I am new to this trek I would love some feedback and thoughts as to whether or not the guide and porter are worth the extra cost.
    Happy trekking all!

  3. (I attempted to post this response earlier but am not sure if it went through as there was a link attached so I am trying again without the link.)
