Everest Base Camp (maybe with Gokyo Lakes, too)

Hi trekkers

I am heading to Everest Base Camp, leaving sometime mid March – between the 11-15 ish. My trip is definite, departure dates are up in the air (do need to lock in the Lukla flight soon)

After debating whether to go on a tour, I have decided to hire a guide/guide-porter/porter and plan independently.

Budget: Mid range. Want to travel comfortably (and can), with the option to save money, too. Not travelling on a restrictive budget. Please note the budget stated with the advert info is based on me climbing solo, this will reduce if we split the cost of a porter/porter-guide)

Gokyo Lakes: I would love to visit the Lakes after Base Camp – dependent on the trekking partner, time and the guide.

Me: Mid 20s, New Zealander-Brit, love outdoor activities – trekking, scuba, ski-diving, etc. Climbed Kilimanjaro in October 2016, and am heading up Mont Blanc and Mount Elbrus Summer 2017. Fairly organised, with a good dash of spontaneity. Safety conscious, but also up for giving anything a go. Eager to get back on the mountains.
(Unrelated: a lover of live music, berry picking, affogatos, and anything Italian.

Would love to see if anyone else wants to come along for the ride/trek?

Reach out to me if this sounds like you,
Clara

  1. Hi Clara,

I am 34 from Bangladesh. Researcher by profession. have already done Annapurna Sanctuary, Circuit, and Langtang trails. this would be my 5th trip to Nepal, hence would have fairly good cultural orientation that might help.

Though I was planning for EBC sometimes around the latter part of this year, no harm in preponing the fun.

If you’re still up for the trail and are not intimidated by an Asian man, let’s connect for detailed plan.

  2. Hi Rathin
At this rate I fly into Kathmandu the 11th of March, alas I have flexi-tickets so am just confirming a few variables that are up in the air. From then I will trek to EBC, stopping at Gokyo Lakes on the return leg.
I am following a reasonably standard ‘tour’ itinerary, just independent.
Reach out if you are trekking at the same time.
    Clara

    • Hi Clara,

I am flexible on timing as well. However, having an active discussion in another thread about a Manaslu trek, followed by Tsum valley visit.

I think I am gonna do the Manaslu one this time. If you think there still is chance you would change the route of your trek, and if you like the Manaslu trail, please feel free to connect. below is the link to the discussion for your reference.

  5. Hi Clara,

Are you confirmed flying into Kathmandu on the 11th?

I have booked tickets to Lukla on that date and am looking for someone to share the cost of a guide with. If you are interested and can possibly start the trek on the 11th do send me a message.

    Regards,
    Iskandar

  6. Hi Clara, How are you doing?

I am Rico and like you we will do the Everest Base Camp trek, but a little bit later.

At the same time we would to ask you some questions and it would be great if you could answer them before your trek to the EBC.

I wish you all the best for your trip to Nepal,
    Rico

    Questions:
    1. Is it possible to hire a porter in Lukla?
    2. How high is the fee for porter for a day?
    3. Does this fee also include the accommodation, food and insurance of the porter?
    4. How many kilograms can a porter carry (max. 15 or 20 or xx)?
    5. How much are meals and water (boiled or bottled) close to the Everest base camp?
    6. Do you need crampon or climbing iron on the trek?
    7. How can you book accommodation along the trek before the trek or while being on the trek?

  7. Hi Clara,
Are you still looking for a trekking partner? I want to do EBC around the same date. Let me know 🙂 cheers, Marine

  8. Hi all,
Thanks for the great feedback. I am now trekking to EBC leaving 12 April. I wanted to update these dates here on this trip, however I am locked out of the account. I have created a new one, however on the account, I cannot post a new trip. So odd – I’ve reached out to TrekkingPartners, alas no reply.
Feel free to reach out if you are travelling to EBC departing 12 April, or Annapurna Circuit departing 29 April.
    Safe travels all, Clare
