Everest Base Camp Trek

Hi, my name is Dan and I’m a 23-year-old English teacher from America currently living and teaching in Thailand. My semester ends early in October, so I am hoping to depart for EBC in mid-October.

I’m looking to do everything as cheap as possible, but I am strongly considering joining a group with a guide or privately hiring a guide and splitting the cost with people. Although it seems like the route is easy to follow, I’d like a guide to learn about the area and also to stay safe in the altitude.

I’m thinking about looking for a group/guide in the Thamel neighborhood in Kathmandu, and I’m planning on starting in Lukla.

All that said, I’m pretty flexible on my plan. I’ll most likely be solo, or with one friend, so I’m just looking to get a small group together and share ideas.

  1. Alrighty mate! So I’m also looking to do this trip around that time, how many days were you thinking of doing the whole trek in? Plus are you considering going or coming back through gokyo ri lakes?

    • I’m definitely considering adding on the gokyo lakes if I have time. I’ll be in Nepal from roughly October 17-November 8, so I’ve left a little extra time to change plans. I’m planning on doing the trip in 12-14 days (for just EBC) or whatever a guide would recommend.

  3. Hi guys.

Ill be in Nepal from start October and some months ahead and I’m planning to do the Everest BC Trek as well.
I’ve been trekking the Annapurna BC as well as Manaslu during my recent visits to Nepal the last couple of years, and have completely fallen in love with Nepal I must admit.

My personal experience of trekking with different trekking agencies, is that there is a clear difference in the intentions of the agencies. While some companies clearly values the incomming money, other companies value the actual experience instead! And there’s a huuuge difference in the services I got from different companies!

I hope I can be of any help!
Please feel free to contact me!

  4. Hi Daniel,

Are you still doing this trek, starting in the middle of October? I am looking to go around the same time and looking for hiking partners with or without a guide. A guide would be nice for the reasons you mentioned – learning about the area, people, fauna, flora as well as adjustment in the altitude.
