Everest Base Camp Trek

I’m planning on starting the EBC Trail on the 19th of March 2016 (I land in KTM on the 17th in the evening) . Anyone that’s looking for a trekking partner is free to meet me in Lukla or in KTM on the 18th and we can take it a day at a time

  1. Hi Rush,

I am planning to EBC too (exactly like you) during same time (Mar12-Mar25 ex KTM).

I am from Bihar in India (Neighboring state of Nepal), currently in US. Would prefer 2-3 people group so that we can be faster.

Been to Himalayas earlier, but 5000 mts will be first time. Let me know if we can club together.

    • Hi Vikas,

Sorry for taking so long to reply but yes you are more than welcome to join me.

      Regards
      Rush

  2. Hi Rush,

I am also planning to do the same trek with addition to a climb to the summit of Lobuche (6,119m). Would you be willing to add that to the itinerary?

    I am from Cairo,Egypt.

    • Hi Hazem,

Haven’t really considered Louche but I’m extremely flexible at this point so I’m willing to look into it.

      Regards

    • Hello Hazeem and Hello Rush!

I am also looking trek EBC and then afterward climbinf Island Peak. I chose Island peak because I have no previous experience of actual climbing and then Island peak was supposed to be a good choice. I am also quite flexible though. Are there any strong reasons why you want to do Lobuche Hazeem? Is it a possible choice as a first high peak?

    • Hi Elias,

Sorry for the late reply, I’ve confirmed my flights and my dates have now changed to start around EBC on the 19/20th of March. I’m a bit worried about altitude sickness so I’ve decided to stick with the standard EBC trail and possibly Gokyo Lakes. You guys are more than welcome to join me up to the point where you wish to split off and do your own thing…

      Regards

  3. Hi Rush and Hazem,

Update: I have booked my flights to Delhi (22 Feb- 26 Mar)

    • I see you also moved your trek up to Feb. Unfortunately the absolute earliest I might be able to the start my trek is around the 29th of February and the absolute latest is around the 21st of March.

I’m currently holding out on booking my flights due to the fuel crisis with the hopes that they get resolved in early December

    • Correcto Rush.

Can not make it to end of March as my flight is on 26 Mar..and earliest I can start from Delhi is 12mar.
12 to 25 is barely 14 days … too tight to risk my international flight.

So, wont be able to come with you guys. Take care

  4. Hi Rush,

I am interested in doing an EBC trek around this same time (March 12/13-25). This will be my first time to Nepal but I’ve done a lot of trekking. I plan to carry my gear but would be happy to split the cost of a guide, as I’ve heard they add a lot to the experience. Let me know if you are still planning on doing this trek at this time. Thanks!

    • Hi Marissa,

I’m still on schedule for the 13th March Departure the only thing that will stop me now is if the fuel crisis gets worst.

      Regards

  5. Hi Rush, I plan to do EBC anytime in March-April, very flexible on the dates. I’ve been to Nepal for a trek, would prefer no guides or porters. Let me know if we can work something out. A suggestion on the fuel crisis: I was in Nepal from 10th Oct to 20th Oct 2015 and this was the worst phase of the fuel crisis. However we didn’t face much issues, probably my agency made sure no problem comes up because of the fuel shortage. If you decide to fly to Kathmandu and the crisis is still on, keep yourself a buffer of 1-2 days before flying to Lukla as international airlines are leaving passenger luggage behind to reduce weight of the aircraft resulting in less consumption of fuel. I was in the same situation but lucky had 2 days prior to going to Pokhara. Good luck! 🙂

    • Hi Abhishek,

Thanks for the advice, I plan to be in Nepal for at least 30 days and the idea is to do the trail first thing after landing. I’m still however set on getting at least a porter-guide.

      Regards

  6. Have a good one and good luck!

  7. My flights are now confirmed, I land in KTM on the 17th of March

    • Congrats Rush. Although not able to join the trip. I am interested to know further. Will follow … keep updating.

      Best wishes.

    • Thanks Vikas, seeing that you headed out first will definitely be follow your trip for tips 🙂

  8. I land in KTM the 15th of March, I would like to fly the next day and start the hike. We are two in our party. I want to go to EBC and if possible do Kala Pathar. We may do it (maybe) without a guide. I need to take my return flight from KTM the 29th. I have been to Nepal once but not to that area.

    • Hi Ed, Rush is in KTM on 17th… and you are flying off KTM on 29th. Don’t you think itinerary is too tight?

Ideally you should head to Lukla on 15th itself so that you have ample (14 days) time on trip to acclimatize.

  9. One more thing. I am a medical doctor, a “poor” one since I am working to get my license in the US. Some may find comforting the idea of walking with an MD. I do plan to take my stethoscope and other tools just in case…

  10. Hi Vikas I would love to fly the same day but the problem is that as I understand there are no flights in the late afternoon (correct me if I a wrong)? I arrive around 3 PM if there is a flight we would not mind taking it the 15th…

    • Hi Ed, I land in the late evening on the 17th so will only be able to fly out earliest the 18th, I’m afraid that wont give you much time time if you leaving on the 29th

    • Yes Ed, there are no flight from KTM to Lukla in evening. Thats actually blessing in disguise… as it gives you time to rent the kit (its cheaper in KTM compared to higher altitudes), also to gives u some time to adjust the body clock.
I word of caution: People brought up in Europe or US normally get sick (loose motion, fever, running nose) in South Asian countries because of the hygiene difference. I would suggest you to keep 2 days buffer in your itinerary.

I somehow feel your itinerary is too tight to accommodate any unexpected events. But, just take my word by pinch of salt and do your own assessment.

  11. Hi Rush, yes it is too late to join your hike as I plan to start ASAP. I was posting here to see if someone else wanted to join us.

Vikas, yes it is quite tight but it is doable if I start early. I am familiar with the hygiene issues there is a good rule to follow that says “Cook it, or peel it, or throw it away”. Last year I was in half a dozen countries I tend to shift time zones very fast. I actually plan to write a small book about my “secret” of how to do it so quickly…

    • Good luck, maybe we’ll cross paths 🙂

    • Wonderful Ed. All the best for the trip.
And you are not ‘Poor’ doc… you are full of experience… thats more important than other riches.

  12. Hey rush.

I am arriving in ktm on the 15th March. I do not have anything else booked including my flight to Lukla.

I am interested in doing the EBC trek but am traveling solo. Are you still looking for a trekking partner?

I would like to at least hire a Porter. As I am traveling long term and have backpack that will need carrying.

I like your idea of working out the pace before trying the lakes. I have never trekked at altitude before so I also wish to see how it goes before deciding to extend the trek.

Let me know if you are still looking for a partner. I can scout out the guides/porters in ktm before you arrive.

    Michael

    • Hi Michael,

I also have concerns over the altitude which is why I prefer the flexibility of independent with own guide/porter who can help carry the load.

My plan is for worse case EBC only which is why I’ve said this will be a Slow Pace EBC trail but if we surprise ourselves then it will be EBC + Gokyo Lakes.

Yes, I’m still looking for partners that’s interested in my plan.

So far all I have is a plane ticket to KTM 🙂

      Regards

    • Hi Michael
Read your comments, if you are interested, I might have a few ideas to share.
      Cheers Harry

  13. Awesome. I’ve sent you a pm so we can discuss the trek

  14. Hi fellow adventurers
I’m Harry – also looking to trek to EBC and 3 hi passes mid March

In March 2014 we ( party of 2) completed Annapurna Circuit and September EBC with Gokyo lakes, then Finispan in Vietnam.
In March 2015 we ( party of 2) again completed Annapurna Circuit.

I’m arriving KTM on March 16th. I’m planning to again, independantly trek to Everest Base Camp ( and perhaps the 3 high passes).
My buddy just bailed due to work commitments so now I’m open to finding a suitable buddy / team.

Lets chat – perhaps I can also offers a few ideas
    Cheers Harry

  16. Hi Rush and other adventurers
RE: Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes Trek

I arrive in KTM on March 16th and leave mid April to trek in Indonesia.

On March 17th will get the paperwork sorted – Timms and Park pass and last minute shopping.

As I have friends and associates in Kathmandu, my trekking plans can be flexible to work in with other people.

My trek buddy just bailed due to work commitments so now I’m happy to join in with a suitable buddy / small independant group who are realistic about health and safety.
FYI – In March 2014 and March 2015 we ( a team of 2 ) independently trekked Annapurna Circuit.
In Sept 2014 we ( another team of 2 ) trekked to EBC and Gokyo

Should I not find a suitable buddy / team, I am prepared to trek to EBC solo – but I’m experienced enough to know attempting Cho La is dependent on suitable health, weather and companionship.

If you are interested – lets chat.
    Cheers Harry

******* Sorry about the duplicate posts ****************

  17. Hi Happy,

You seem to be alot more experienced than me and I might just slow you down?

With that I plan on landing in Lukla on the 19th and anyone that’s looking for a trekking partner is free to join me and we can take it a day at a time.

    Regards

  18. Hi Rush
I also plan to take the first flight on the 19th – which airline are you flying with?
I always stay at the Hotel Happy Home – PV road in Thamel.
maybe we catch up for a coffee/beer and a chat if you like.

Seems Vikas (no visa) and Michael (broken toe) are no longer starters

Do you have an off-line trekking map of EBC?
