Gokyo Lakes Trek

Hi! I am interested in the Gokyo Trek (not Everest Base Camp). I am pretty flexible at the moment on time of year and duration but I am thinking April & around 2 weeks. I’ve done a number of solo trips around the world and am really into experiencing what the place has to offer. I would love to find someone to travel with since I have never been to Nepal or trekking in general (though I am very athletic & the physical demands won’t be a problem). I will probably hire a guide since I’ve learned from experience that locals know the most, teach you a lot and are lots of fun! I let the day dictate my plans and am definitely open to any and all side ventures and whatever adventures come up!

  1. Hi Courtney, I will be setting off from Lukla to Everest Base Camp on either 02nd, 03rd or 04th April. I am an experienced climber, if you would like to join up for the trip to EBC let me know. I will be hiring a porter in Lukla

  2. Hi Courtney, I’m planning to do three passes trek including Gokyo lake in everest region starting last week of March or first week of April 2016. Also considering Kanchenjunga Base camp trek as second option during same period but depends on tie up with fellow trekkers. Had been to Nepal couple of times for hiking and did EBC, Annapurna circuit and few more short durations treks in Nepal eaarlier. Like you my focus will not be EBC but to explore rest of the everest region. i’ll prefer to do this trek as independent trekker without any guide or porter as i’m quite familier with Nepal’s hiking system and everest region . I can also manage to communicate with locals in their language so getting information about places and route should not be a problem. To get better acclimatization for high altitude trekking, i’ll approach Namche Bazar from Jiri instead of taking flight to Lukla. Starting trek from Jiri will provide more trekking days for high altitude trek preparedness and also save flight cost which sometime very high during the peak season. I’m planning to reach Kathmandu on March 23rd amd start hiking from Jiri on March 25th. Please let me know if you are flexible for these dates and interested to join.

    • Hi Ajay! Sorry for the late reply… I haven’t checked this in ai while. Due to some work commitments, I had to push my planned trip back a little and won’t be starting until mid April. It sounds like you are much more experienced than I am so it would’ve been great to join you. Bummed the dates don’t align. Starting from Jiri though sounds like a good idea. I will have to keep that in mind for the future. Have a great trip!

  3. Hi Courtney, I’m planning on hiking the Three Passes Trek in April. Will arrive in Kathmandu on 8 April and will fly to Lukla and start hiking on Sat 9 April. My plan is to hike without guide and without porter (but those plans might change along the way). Let me know what you’re up to, would be cool to see you there! Eline

    • Hi Eline! I ended up booking my trip a few weeks ago. Because of previous work commitments I am starting a little later than planned. I will arrive in Kathmandu on April 13th and probably stark on April 15th. I was contemplating the Three Passes Trek too but not sure I have enough time. Would love to meet up and maybe trek some of the way together if we can somehow make that work! If things don’t align, have a great trip!

    • Hi Courtney! Ah, shame you’ll be starting slightly later! However, we might still meet on the trail. My dates are fixed (hiking from 9-29 April), but I’m pretty flexible with my route and will let it all depend on how I feel physically, the weather and the conditions on the passes. Might end up skipping some or all of the passes and hiking to EBC and Gokyo Lakes instead. I’ll see if I can PM you so I can send you my contact details. Makes it easier to keep in touch. Take care!

  4. Hi Courtney – I’m planning on arriving in Kathmandu April 3, heading to Lukla the next day or two, and spending several weeks trekking through the Gokyo Lakes region, over the Cho La pass to Everest Base Camp, then back to Lukla along the traditional EBC trail. I’m looking into hiring a guide as well. Let me know how your plans are coming and if interested in syncing up.

    • Hi Bruce. I arrive in Kathmandu 10 days after you, but am considering a similar route. I’ve been looking into guides and it would be great to split the cost and sync up but we might just miss each other..

  5. Hello Courtney,

I read your advertisement. I land on 16 april in kathmandu. Then I would trek.

Your ad sounds great. I would appreciate an answer

    kindest regards Christian

  6. Hi Courtney,
I would be very interested to do the Three Passes Trek, but also no need for me to go to Mount Everest Base Camp. I am going to arrive in KTM on the 11th of April and I am still looking for a trekking group or partner.
So far I have never been to the Himalayas but I am doing a lot of trekking and rock climbing in my free time so I would consider myself as reasonably fit. Have you fixed anything yet?
