Island Peak

Currently this plan is still in its infant stages, but wanting to put this out there to find potential partners and/or guide.

I am planning on climbing Island and Mera Peak at the start of May. I’ll start with trekking the 3 passes to acclimatise. This will be without porters and guides (I’ve done EBC/Kongma LA in 2015, and been to Island Peak Base Camp during that trek) but looking to do Island Peak and organise a guide from Chukkung. I am looking to do this on a budget. Sharing the permit and guide amongst others will help towards this but finding one or multiple partners in crime with similar interests would make the experience a whole lot more memorable too. I have no gender preference.

After Island Peak I would love to move onto Mera Peak as well.

About me: I am 30 year old male, working in the film industry. Looking to start mountaineering in the Himalaya’s. Avid hiker, but relatively unexperienced on mountaineering. Love to film, photograph and document the whole experience as best as I can. Originally from the Netherlands but currently living in Sydney.

  1. Wats good mate.. Me and my pals are going there on the 1st of may and would like to join you.. Where ahould we meet and how many days would it take to hike.. Thanks..

  2. Hi Rick, if it’s happening please count me in! Thanks!

  3. Hi! I’m interested in doing this as well! I have to be back in Kathmandu by 21 May, do you think this would be possible?

  4. Guys, I have been real slack and absent lately due to some changes at work. Basically this means I can’t take as much time off and do the trip I wanted to do. I am now looking at just focussing on Mera Peak starting from Lukla on the 16th of April and i’ll be on a pretty ambitious schedule to do it fast. If anyone is around during that time, stay in touch, but otherwise I would suggest talking to the others in this thread and set something up.

Again, apologies for the lack of communication from my end, I am pretty bummed not being able to get to do the good version of this trip.

  5. Ok, I’ll catch Rick’s offer.

I’m landing in Lukla on 23rd April; it’s my first time in Nepal; I have some propositions for guides but nothing decided really.

I want to do Lukla – Gokyo – Cho La Pass – Island Peak – Lukla.

    Around 25 days.

Would be nice to share costs on guide and permit (Each climbing permit for Island peak allows up to 4 people apparently).

A good part is still undecided, porter? rent or bring my own climbing gear?

    Cheers!

    Jaime

  6. Hei rick, i’m as well from the beginning of may to june in nepal and i have actually the same plans as you.
Woule be cool when we do parts of the trek together.
I find i agency with a climbing guide for 1800$ but it’s still to expensive for me. If we could arrange something cheaper i would be keen.
    Cheers marcus
