Jiri – Everest Base Camp

Hi – arrive kathmandu 21st march – staying at a Thamel hostel called happily ever after for 2 nights. plan on sat or Sunday to get TIM ($20) and snp permit (1000NR) from tourist office then book bus ticket (micro bus rather than local) hoping to leave on 6am bus monday 23rd march to Jiri ( 7.5hrs). I have a map already from a friend who has done this trip solo, I am open to a porter/guide but would like to see how i get on without either to start with (it may be possible to arrange porters at teahouses I think?)

Rough plan jiri-Lukla 6 days. Lukla – ebc 2weeks. Fly back from Lukla (just looking into if prebooking Lukla return flight is best) following roughly the plan on the photo below (obviously not stopping at every teahouse – thinking 5-8 hours trekking a day and also being conscious of no more than 500m/day increase in altitude. Also plan an acclimatisation day or two at Namche bazar.

i am a 35 year old from Birmingham, UK, easy going, well travelled, have a little bit of experience altitude walking and keep fairly active but nothing too amazing. If anyone wants to join me, i have a map I think I can read but probably can’t, the lonely planet guide and my hiking boots. Look forward to hearing from you. 🙂 Lisa. (I am on the right of this pic as you look at it)

  1. This sounds like a good plan. I’d be interested in hiking with you.

    • Hey Kyle – thats cool.. When do you arrive / know where staying yet? Planning on leaving on the bus ti jiri on the 23rd march if all goes to plan.. Let me know if want to meet up prior or on the route somewhere. I’ll send you my contact details via message.

  2. Hi Lisa!

I am also looking at a similar itinerary for EBC. I am planning to trek to EBC via the 3 Passes route after completing the Annapurna Circuit. Let me know if you are interested in hiking together. I’ll be in Nepal Feb 25th onwards and might not be able to reply promptly thereafter.

Also, being an architect, I earn a living working on drawings/plans and such so I might be able to help you out with that map of yours. Cheers!

    • Hi Ritesh – your map reading skills would be very welcome…:-) is the 3 passes route similar to what i have proposed? Any more difficult? I can send you my contact details – hostel that i am staying in is in trip post – am there 20th-23rd if you can’t get hold of me..

  3. Hello Lisa,

I kind of have a similar plan! Are you still looking for people to partner up? I posted a plan as well, I would love to start at Jiri and then walk, instead of flying in to Lukla. I see some other people that I wanted to post a message to replied here as well..

Anyway, I just got back from doing the annapurna circuit and base camp so I guess I got some experience now, (map reading isn’t part of that experience) Would love to join up with you guys!

    • Heya Bart – welcome to join : have sent u message to see if you can catch up with us- i also have a friend from home coming with me too
