Three Passes Trek (via Jiri trek)

From 16 Sept. to 28 Oct. I`ll visit Nepal for a third time. After getting the permits in KTM I want to take the microbus to Shivalaya. From Shivalaya it`s a beautiful 6-days walk over three passes (up to 3,500 m). It makes you fit for what follows. 🙂 Compared with a flight to Lukla the Jiri trail is the better access to Solu-Khumbu. It`s uncrowded, helps to get fit and acclimatized and is realy worthwhile. But if you definitely want to fly to Lukla (e.g. for time reasons) I`m willing to compromise.
This is my plan for the complete 25 days trip:
(01) 21-Sept KTM to Shivalaya (by Bus)
(02) 22-Sept Shivalaya to Kinja
(03) 23-Sept Kinja to Junbesi
(04) 24-Sept Junbesi to Nunthala
(05) 25-Sept Nunthala to Bupsa
(06) 26-Sept Bupsa to Cheplung
(07) 27-Sept Cheplung to Namche
(08) 28-Sept Acclimatization – Rest Day
(09) 29-Sept Namche to Deboche/Tengboche (3820m)
(10) 30-Sept Acclimatization – Rest Day
(11) 01-Oct Trek to Dingboche (4410m)
(12) 02-Oct Acclimatization – Rest Day – trek to Nangkartshang Peak (5,080m)
(13) 03-Oct Trek to Chhukung (4600m)
(14) 04-Oct Acclimatization – Climb Chhukung Ri (5550m)
(15) 05-Oct Trek over Kongma La (5535m) to Lobuche (4925m)
(16) 06-Oct Trek to Gorak Shep (5165m), attempt EBC
(17) 07-Oct Attempt Kala Patar (5540m) descend to Lobuche
(18) 08-Oct Trek to Dzhonglha (4830m)
(19) 09-Oct Cho La (5420m) to Dragnag (4694m)
(20) 10-Oct Trek to Gokyo (4775m)
(21) 11-Oct Rest day and visit of Gokyo Ri (5357m) or/and Gokyo Lakes
(22) 12-Oct Renjo La (5465m) to Thame
(23) 13-Oct Trek to Namche Bazaar (3407m)
(24) 14-Oct Trek to Lukla (2808m)
(25) 15-Oct Flight to KTM

I`ll carry my backpack for my own. For safety reasons I think it`s best to hire a local guide before crossing each of the three passes but we can discuss this. In case of bad weather, insufficient endurance, high altitude sickness or delay in time I won`t hesitate to skip one or two passes or the excursion to EBC that I`ve already visited in 2014. It`s easy to shorten the trail if needed. But my first focus is on the exciting challange that there are all highlights of the Everest region in a single trip. Do you want to join?

  1. Hi Lars,

    Wolfgang

  2. Hi Lars,

    Wie gehts?
I’m keen on the same sort of trek, currently in Kashmir after some trekking in Ladakh, I’ve contacted Kitty also off this site.
Let me know how it suits,

    Cheers,
    Jarred
