Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek

Hi there

I’m currently organising a teahouse trek with guide and porter to Kanchenjunga region and wondered if anybody is interested in joining up.

I have a quote from an agency including flights but i have also received quote from a different agency taking bus to Birtamod (day 1) and an 8-10 hour bus from Birtamod to Taplejung (Day 2). The bus is much cheaper ($80 return).

The actual trekking from Taplejung on the south route should take 19 days including 2 rest days so 23 or 24 days in total.

I’ve looked at some videos and photos of the Kanchenjunga trek and for me this looks about the most stunning trekking route in Nepal, certainly an equal with the Everest region.

Will probably do south – north route visiting the Kanchenjunga south base camp and then cross the Sele La over to Ghunsa and the Kanchenjunga north base camp.

You need permits and a guide so i am using an agency to help with the logistics. This agency was recommended by Holger who has just left for the trip to Kanchenjunga.

The costs seem reasonable: $30 a day for the guide and $19 a day for the porter so about $1000 for 20 days, divided into two trekkers is $500. So then there is the transport (including for the guide and porter) and the permits so maybe another $200 each . The food is then about $25 dollars a day.

Please let me know asap as i will be confirming to the agency next week that the trip is going ahead for the 1st May.

Thanks

Andy

  1. Hi Andrew,
I am interested in doing the Kanchenjunga trek in the timeframe you mentioned. I would be on a shoestring budget so the flights might be a bit difficult.
P.S. Have done Annapurna circuit and EBC cum Tokyo in Nepal among other treks in india and Tibet. Slow to moderate pace trekker as of now.
