Three Passes Trek (Hike to Namche via Jiri)

Hi all

I will be hiking the Three Passes Trek (+EBC side trip) counter-clockwise in early March. The Three Passes Trek portion will likely begin ~3.14. However, I am considering a different option from flying in to Lukla: Taking a bus from KTM to Jiri/Shivalaya and hiking to Namche. I would prefer to not use a guide but am open to sharing a guide. I will be carrying my own gear, so I will not be needing a porter. This is my tentative itinerary:

KTM to Namche via Jiri (Teahouse lodging):
3.9 Kathmandu – Jiri/Shivalaya (bus)
3.10 Jiri – Bhandar
3.11 Bhandar – Dakachu
3.12 Dakachu – Salung
3.13 Salung – Jubhing/Kharikhola
3.14 Jubhing/Kharikhola – Paiya/Surke
3.15 Paiya/Surke – Namche
(I have to do more research on KMD – Jiri route)

3.16 Rest day at Namche

Three Passes Trek (Teahouse lodging):
3.17 Namche – Tengboche
3.18 Tengboche – Dingboche
3.19 Rest day at Dingboche
3.20 Dingboche – Chukhung
3.20 Rest day at Chukhung
3.21 Chuchung – Kong Ma La (Pass 1) – Lobuche
3.22 Lobuche – Gorak Shep (EBC side hike)
3.23 Gorak Shep – Dzongla
3.24 Dzongla – Cho La (Pass 2) – Gokyo
3.24 Rest day at Gokyo – Renjo La (Pass 3) – Lumde
3.25 Lumde – Namche
(I need to do more research regarding rest days/side hikes)

As you can see, my itinerary is a work in progress. But it is flexible since I will be in Nepal for about 1 month. If you’re a fellow safety conscious individual interested in joining me on any part of my trip, please let me know!

  1. Hey Isaac,

I’ll be in Nepal at the time and was looking at doing EBC, but I love the rough itinerary you’ve put together. I usually do most of my hiking solo but think it would be a sensible decision to have a partner, especially during the off-peak season.

I plan on carrying all my own gear, but would be open to splitting a guide. Feel free to reach out over Facebook so we can chat more about this ( I’m shit at checking my email subfolders)

  2. Hello Isaac, I am arriving in KMD March 9 and leaving KMD March 11 with public transport to Nunthala and start my trek from there to follow more or less the same trek. I have arranged a guide and porter. I need to consider my age, at least that is what some people say (66). This year I did EBC. We could share costs of the guide. If you are interested we can share more details, Gerard

  3. Hey Isaac, i am also interested in joining up around that same time. I was planning on doing it unguided and walking in not flying. Please feel free to contact me and we can discuss some plans.
