Upper Mustang Trek

I am from Nepal and have done treks before, e.g, Annapurna Circuit, Langtang and some in Europe. I haven’t trekked much this year so could be a bit out of shape and slower than usual. Looking for people to share the trip.

My plan is to reserve a jeep from Pokhara to Jomsom and back from Jomsom to Pokhara. Public transport in these routes are notorious because the local cartels have a very uncompetitive nature. As a result, the ride is not comfortable, or on time. It makes planning difficult and causes other annoyances.

Between Jomson to Upper Mustang (Lo Manthang and/or Korala), I plan to walk. I’m also fine with taking public transport in some sections of this trip if needed, or to split up the group so that some would walk, some would ride public transport. The group does not need to be together all the time and it could be possible to make changes suitable to everyone. It’s ok if someone wants to stay take a day longer or rest an extra day at some place.

From Jomsom to Upper Mustang would take about 3 days to walk (via Muktinath) and about the same number of days to return. One or two days in Lo Manthang to explore the area. Plan to stay in local lodging, teahouses. I know some people in the area and they might help with reservations or last minute adjustments.

The budget below is just an estimate. I don’t know the exact amounts required for permits (for foreigners) and other costs. But transport to and back from Jomsom could already cost about $200-$300 (this cost will be shared by the number of people occupying the reserved jeep).
