Upper Mustang Trek

Napaste!

I am an engineering student planning a trip to Nepal this summer. I would like to do the Upper Mustang trek during the months of Jully or August (it could be another trek though I think this is the best choice due to de monsoon).

I am looking for people to share this experience as I wouldn’t like to be alone during both months. Besides, I think that a minimum 2 people team is required to obtain the trekking permit.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any other proposition!

  1. i am considering changing this trek to the Nar-Phu one: another monsoon free region (no heavy rains) but far less expensive. The permit here costs only 75USD and it seems a cool place to trek.

    • Nar-Phu Seems Cool too!
What do you already know about this trek?
I’m trying to hav a back-up plan for if the Mustang trekking won’t be possible.

    • It is in the monsoon shadow region, so it wouldn’t rain (so much). It is a 7 days long trek wich begins in Koto and ends in Ngawal (passing through Phu). It is a medium difficulty trekk in the TIbetan enclave which offers medieval villages.

  2. hi Carlos, i wonder have you decided your trekking route yet? I am planning for a similar schedule (late July – middle August) as you, perhaps we can team up 🙂 i would depart from Belgium and i can stay in Nepal up to 3 weeks (which is all i have for this summer vacation).

    • Hi! I haven’t decided all the details yet though I’d like to trek the Nar and Phu valleys: I heard it is a easy monsoon rain free trek that offers a lot of stuff related to the Tibetan culture. However, you don’t have to pay the 500 USD permit! I’d like to start on August 1st more or less.

    • Hi Tian
After reading your message –it seems you are interested to trek up Upper mustang. Actually upper mustang is the forbidden kingdom which is close to Tibet platue. Trekking in upper mustang have own culture and diversity that you can experience over 2nd century monument, monastery, event and as well as the scenery of Lo-Mantnag including scenery of landscape. But comparing price it gonna be so high for you and specially single entry permit is 500USD for 10 days and additional cost will bear upon added and its not flexible to find partner becoz of people goes to there as rarely in off season. so we we have a good option for your another opportunity to do beautiful trek within best price.no worry at all you are single as we are based on government authority that you can feel very comfortable to adventure with us.

Please if you would like to know something new information for your suit trek as per your budget or want to know more(www.stepbystepadvt.com)-we are very flexible to provide our best.

  4. Hi all! So it seems we are 5 people interested in doing this trek. Here is what I had in mind (you may propose changes of course).
We could do the Nar and Phu valleys trek. This is a good option because it is a monsoon free region (no rain!) and we don’t have to pay the 500USD permit needed for Mustang.

I’ll give you more details aboute the trek if you decide to joi the group but it should take around 7 days and I would like to start on August 1st. It is easy to get where the the trek starts from Phokara (maybe we could meet all there).

    • Carlos,

I am going to spend the whole August in Nepal so your trekking idea sounds perfect for me.
I have no plans, I adjust, I can run or take it easy.
Please let me know, if you have shared more info with the other people interested in joining.

      Cheers
      Pawel
