Upper Mustang , Upper Dolpo, Post-Monsoon 2013, dates flex –

Hey guys! Starting this thread for Upper Mustang (to Lo Manthang) for the Post-Monsoon season (September 2013 onwards) – The area is under “Restricted Permits” with a fee of $50/day  for 10 days, Minimum 2 persons on the permit.

  1. I would like to do it as a part of the Annapurna Ckt (i.e. start the walk from Besi Shehar) &  pick up the guide at Kagbeni on an appointed date & do it as a tea-house trek to Lo Manthang & back to Kagbeni with 3-4 days of hanging out in Lo Manthang.
  2. I would also like to make the most of the being in the area and combine the Mustang Trek with the  Kagbeni-Upper Dolpo trek (seperate $50/day for 10 days permit) – This would be a camping trek at least for the first few days & logistics would need to be figured out and handled rather efficiently, I presume.

Dates flexible, can plan further , please drop me a note – Trek #2 is optional at this point (but smth that’s rather close to my heart, despite the costs of permits etc!), but if you are interested for trek #1 (either as a part of Annapurna circuit or meeting up at Jomsom/Kagbeni), we can start figuring stuff out. I do not know of any travel agents in Kat (I did the Annapurna Sancturary as an indie trek in 2010), but I think we can figure something out sooner. I am a 30 year old guy, well traveled (been to 30+ countries in the past 4 years) & well-heeled (have trekked Ladakh, Zanskar and Spiti for 5 months last year)- I speak English, Hindi & Tamil. Looking for replies from serious trekkers who are well into their planning stages. No dilettantes, please! (P.S: If you are a travel agent in Kathmandu, please do not repond with an all-inclusive package tour itinerary – However, if you are willing to organize a permit and logistics for a fee, would love hear from you!) Regards, Pras.

  1. Hi Pras, I am novice trekker, my dates for Mustang (Jomsom-Lo Mantang-Muktinath) are 28/6 – 15/7. You sound like a serious trekker, and I’d like to meet,if our dates coincide. My obstacle is I can’t go with just the guide, prefer independent guide, not Three Sisters, famous agency in Pokhara, as too many women, noisy, would spoil things. If you know of anyone fitting schedule above, please email me: paulamargret@yahoo.co.uk. Thanks! Paula

  2. Hi Pras,
Currently started looking for trek in autumn 2013. My final destination not yet decided, but really interested in trekking Dolpo and potentially Mustang.
I am interested in a small group and have some experience in self organized treks (10 days complete autonomy in Patagonia in dec 2010).
As photograph amateur I would rather focus on one longer trek than rushing to try to do everything.
    Please contact me if interested
